The main cause of odors is hydrogen sulfide (H2<\/sub>S).<\/h2>\n

The main cause of odors in wastewater disposal and treatment systems is hydrogen sulfide (H2<\/sub>S). This is a colorless gas that is felt at very low concentrations (the smell of rotten eggs), and its detrimental effect on the body can cause serious consequences.<\/p>\n

It is well known that bacterial oxidation of hydrogen sulfide in sewer systems causes corrosion of concrete. In 1984, the US Environmental Protection Agency estimated that $ 3.2 billion was needed to reconstruct sewer networks in the United States, and most of the damage was caused by hydrogen sulfide.<\/p>\n

Studies show that the rate of hydrogen sulfide corrosion of concrete at 25 degrees and a concentration of hydrogen sulfide of 2 ppm in air reaches its maximum value of 16 mm \/ year. Corrosion can be prevented by removal of hydrogen sulfide, with the controlled dosing of special reagents removing hydrogen sulfide.<\/p>\n
